SWEETGRASS

Time & Space Limited - 434 Columbia St. Hudson, NY 12534
5:30pm

A film by Ilisa Barbash and Lucien Castaing-Taylor (Made in China), Sweetgrass is an unsentimental elegy to the American West. Through its breathtaking sights we follow the last modern-day cowboys as they lead their flocks of sheep up into Montana’s stunning and often dangerous Absaroka-Beartooth mountains to find summer pasture. This astonishingly beautiful and unsparing film reveals a world in which nature and culture, animals and humans, and vulnerability and violence are intimately meshed together. A must-see – this movie got great reviews and is only showing in a few theaters across America! 2009. 101 minutes.

Winner of Seven Césars (French Academy Awards) “One of the loveliest and most somber fables of a lonely artist’s ecstasy.” – David Denby, The New Yorker
This movie tells the story of Séraphine de Senlis (Yolande Moreau), a simple housekeeper whose brilliantly colorful canvases adorn some of the most famous galleries in the world. Willhelm Uhde (Ulrich Ukur), a German art critic and collector discovers her paintings while she is working for him as a maid in Senlis near Paris in the early part of the 20th century. Director Martiin Provost’s fictionalized and tragic portrait of this forgotten painter is a testament to creativity and the resilience of one woman’s spirit. In French with English subtitles. 2008. 125 minutes.
